Cassette Tape

This month I wanted to really dig into my texturing workflow and see what results I could produce without smart materials. I did most of my texturing in substance, with some design and cleanup in photoshop. I learned a few of neat tricks with this project, namely normal cards, and some clever ways to use masks.

A peek into my layer stack, I tend to work almost exclusively with fill layers. Masking the sections I want the effect to cover. I also like to keep tight control of my roughness and color values. I avoid using substances I didn't make myself.

My high poly, normal cards are a really useful trick to adding detail without having to integrate complex geometry into the model.

A nice clean low poly mesh to bake into.

Earlier in the month I had planned on doing a much more complicated piece. But a few people suggested I would learn more if I really just focused on the cassette.
